About This Project
As interest in Chinese language and culture grows, more local students are looking for opportunities to develop basic conversational skills.
Volunteers support students with practical Chinese conversation from Monday to Friday. Volunteers typically arrive on Sunday and begin teaching on Monday afternoon.
Typical responsibilities include:
- Discussing students’ current ability with the local team to avoid repeating previous material
- Planning lessons with other volunteers and improving teaching activities
- Teaching from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. each weekday
Requirements
Participants must be at least 18 years old. Applicants studying Chinese or a related subject are preferred.

Accommodation
Volunteers stay in a homestay run by the school director and their family, usually sharing a room with two or three people. The NGO provides three meals a day. Meals are generally not provided by the homestay on weekends, but volunteers can discuss arrangements with the host family if needed.
Arrival Instructions
Teaching takes place in the afternoons, leaving mornings and evenings free to explore Ubud and nearby areas. Weekends can be used to explore other parts of Bali and nearby islands. The host may help arrange private transport and boat tickets. Volunteers who plan to drive a car or motorcycle must carry the appropriate international driving permit or translation and comply with local law. Driving without valid documentation may create serious safety and legal risks. Nearby places of interest include Ubud Palace, Tirta Empul, the Sacred Monkey Forest, waterfalls, volcanoes, rice terraces, Tanah Lot, Ulun Danu Beratan, Uluwatu, Kuta, Jimbaran, Nusa Lembongan, Nusa Penida and the Gili Islands.

Airport pickup may be available for approximately USD 42, shared among volunteers travelling together. Volunteers teaching for one month or longer may be exempt from the airport pickup fee.
