About This Project
This cultural-exchange placement offers volunteers an opportunity to spend time in a Buddhist monastery and learn about its daily routines.
Volunteers may teach conversational Chinese or English, help in the kitchen, dining area or garden, and take part in appropriate activities arranged by the monastery. The experience may also include learning about meditation and local Buddhist practice.
Daily responsibilities and participation in religious activities depend on the monastery and must be agreed with the host in advance.
Requirements
Participants must be at least 18 years old and fluent in English. Volunteers should be respectful of local religious practices and follow the monastery’s rules and schedule.

Accommodation
The host organization arranges accommodation and meals during the placement. Volunteers stay with a host family and may share a room and bathroom facilities with other volunteers. Three meals are provided each day. The homestay offers an opportunity to experience daily life and local cooking in Nepal.
Arrival Instructions
Kathmandu offers many cultural sites to explore outside program hours, including Kathmandu Durbar Square, Swayambhunath, Pashupatinath Temple, Boudhanath Stupa and the Garden of Dreams. Exact monastery location, arrival and local transport instructions must be confirmed with the host before travel.
