About This Project
As Nepal’s tourism sector has grown, Chinese-language skills have become increasingly useful for people working in tourism and trade.
Volunteers support Chinese-language learning at a community school in Kathmandu. Learners may include tour guides, hotel staff or tourism police. Teaching is expected to take approximately two to three hours per day, depending on the school’s schedule.
Requirements
Participants must be at least 18 years old and fluent in English. Volunteers should be able to teach practical conversational Chinese.
Dates and Commitment
Available dates
Year-round
Accommodation
The host organization arranges accommodation and meals during the placement. Volunteers stay with a host family, usually sharing a room and bathroom facilities with other volunteers. Three local or continental-style meals are provided each day. Living with a host family offers an opportunity to experience daily life in Nepal and learn about local cooking.
Arrival Instructions
Kathmandu offers many cultural sites to explore outside program hours, including Kathmandu Durbar Square, Swayambhunath, Pashupatinath Temple, Boudhanath Stupa and the Garden of Dreams. Exact arrival and local transport instructions must be confirmed with the host before travel.
Legacy Program Cost Details
The legacy source states that accommodation, meals and airport pickup are included during the placement. The host must confirm current prices and inclusions before sending an offer.
Application and Selection Process
Submit an application through the program page on the SOAR website. Use on-platform messaging for all pre-booking communication. Confirm availability before booking flights, visas or other travel arrangements.
